PERIFERIE

PERIFERIE - Hommage á Alexandr Hackenschmied

About >  Alexander Hammid is an author of a famous 1930 short film Aimless Walk (Bezúčelná procházka). This silent picture poem captures (seemingly) "aimless" walk of an unknown man through the urban peripheries of pre-war Prague. It is one of the basic works of the Czech avantgard film and furthermore, till present date it represents an up-to-date expression techniques and invites us for interpretation. It is a film where the pattern of the story is repeated and it shows the mythical character of a eternal "Prague passer-by", the motives of disunity and look-like, improvisation and non-linear proces of perception and inosculation. The Periferie project is a syhtesis of video, film and live music. The authentic film material of Hammid's film is complemented with new photo and video pictures, while enriched by and combined with ambient sounds and music shapes and forms. >> The performance is inspired by enigmatic poetism and atmosphere of the original Hammid's film, by musical culture and urban environment of Prague in the 1930's and by current alternative music and sound creation in the US and in Central Europe. Original soundtrack is recorded by Beth Custer, USA, Martin Alacam, TUR and Christoph Pajer, A.
